I returned to this material after a few months, because I felt that the first reading didn't reveal everything to me. This time I understood better how avoiding assumptions and rephrasing the conversation partner's ideas can prevent simple misunderstandings. In our volunteer project, where we work with teenagers, I applied the technique of repeating what I heard in my own words, and the result was a warmer and more cooperative atmosphere. We no longer assume we know what the other person is thinking – we ask and truly listen. This page helped me see non-violent communication not as a theory, but as a daily tool for social harmony.
